No more teachers no more books...

Well, actually it's just no more Swahili teachers and I'll probably still need my Swahili books after today, but we finished our Swahili class today!

Yesterday we took a final exam, and today we went over it and we all passed!
I'm not sure what we would do if we didn't pass...especially since our teacher leaves for Nairobi this afternoon and very few people here speak proper Swahili so the chances of having a make up class are almost non-existent. So I guess it's a good thing we all passed!

I feel pretty confident in my Swahili skills; I can definitely understand more than I can speak which is normal. As long as I can catch a few words in each sentence I can figure out the gist of what someone is saying and reply in choppy Sheng (Swahili/English mix). I really hope that as we begin doing more ministry and spending less time in a classroom, my vocabulary will increase and the choppiness will decrease. The hardest part is being brave enough to open your mouth and start talking and I think the worst of the blunders have passed, so I'm looking forward to learning in a totally different way than we've done so far.

Thanks for prayers about language struggles; they're definitely not all over so please continue to pray for comprehension and the ability to communicate. Thanks! :)

  1. We have our last week of language school this week. This is definitely going to be a big change huh? I just got back from Bosnia and it was amazing Laura! I fell in love with that country! Now, I'm home and sick. You'll have to check out my blog. Hopefully i'm updating soon.
