Thanksgiving

I wondered how Thanksgiving would turn out for me this year, since as I'm living in S.Land on a Norwegian team with Finnish housemates!  Not so many Americans around to help me celebrate this time.  I've never actually done the cooking part of Thanksgiving, I always end up on dish washing or child entertaining duty because my cooking skills are pretty sad.  But everything turned out ok :)

We couldn't get Turkey so we had this itty-bitty chicken that cost $5-pre-slaughtered and frozen, lucky us!

I had planned to make pumpkin pie from a pumpkin a friend here gave me, but it was still green when Thanksgiving rolled around, so we went with apple pie instead.  My housemate actually made the pie, not me, and it was delicious.

I felt like my grandma, running around the kitchen trying to do too many things at once and worrying that the food wouldn't be the way it's SUPPOSED to be.  I have so much respect for my grandmas and my mom for all the big meals they whip out every holiday-it's hard work!  The extent of my daily cooking is usually boiling rice and beans, maybe some veggies too.  I rarely make an American style meal with meat, potatoes, vegetables and all, so Thanksgiving was a bit of a leap.

Luckily my housemates know as much or less than me about cooking, so they're easy to impress haha!

Over dinner, I told them the story of the first Thanksgiving, which they'd never heard before, and we shared things we're thankful for.  I'm glad I could be with these ladies, even though I miss family in the US and friends in Kenya.

  1. My class and I prayed for you to have a "happy" American Thanksgiving, knowing our bountiful Father would provide as He does unceasingly. Your post here shares His providential hand, allowing His people to know Him and recognize His immediate care, regardless of our physical locale. Your dinner plate looked like it came from the tables at the Weston house from which God fed the Bak's, Leonard's, and us.
