I've been in Kenya a week exactly today! Well, actually I arrived in the extreme AM on Saturday, after a long delay in the London airport that put my arrival back from 8:30PM to 3:00AM!
I spent a few days in Nairobi with the Germo family and took the bus here to the town I'll live in for the next few years. It's very strange and wonderful being back here. I'm slowly realizing why people keep telling me it will be different now that I'm not a student...it IS different, and it is good.
It's so nice to be with the Witt family and have some time to adjust. The interns will arrive in about a week, and a short term literacy team will arrive in about four weeks, so this is going to be a crazy awesome whirlwind of a beginning! I can't wait to get working and learning!
Some things I've noticed since being here:
-I missed hearing Swahili and I remember way more than I thought
-I still really like ice cold coke in a glass bottle...ahhh
-it's not as hot as I feared (or I'm not as much of a wussy as I feared, whichever)
-things have changed...some good, some bad (uh I bought an internet modem about an hour before I started using it to write this...worked on the first try. Unheard of!)
-Charis Witt is a perfect picture of how long I've been gone since she was born right after I left
-My life is going to be AWESOME because I have a good Father who gives me the desires of my heart
On that last note-how cool is it that God orchestrates my life into his plan, which includes the lives of all the people around me...it's like a billion times more complex of a plot line than any movie I've ever seen. And I get to not only be a part of the story, I get to see glimpses of what's going on...where this is all headed and the purpose of the seemingly random events, conversations, and decisions. None of this is random, and it all works together for the good of those who love the Author-those who are called according to His purposes. (Romans 8:28)
So that's what's up on this side of the world. I'll be heading to Nairobi to welcome the new interns soon, and the craziness will begin!
