Villages in the Bush

We finally got to venture out of town into the surrounding bush to see two villages this weekend. We bounced around in a jeep and a van for about a half an hour over some seriously rough terrain. One moment the man driving would be revving the engine and turning the steering wheel back and forth to stay on top of the sand, and the next he'd be inching the van down the steep edge of a dried up river bed! It was ten times better than any roller coaster, but probably because the driver was so capable that we only got stuck a few times so I wasn't worried.

Despite the adventure driving into the bush and back out again, it was incredibly relaxing. It felt so good to draw back from the noise and stress of the city (even though it's a very small city it can be overwhelming still) and see a different way of life.

There are 6 different tribes in this area, all of which are among the least-reached for Christ. We visited with people who are currently working in these areas to bring the light of Christ through things like medical clinics, schools and farming projects. They have made such a visible impact on the villages and have earned great respect and friendship as a result.

The trip fueled my prayers for the people here, both those in need of the light of Christ and those bringing it. I know for now God has called me to serve in the background through prayer and serving those in the foreground, so I love catching glimpses of what God is doing here.

If you want to pray along with us, please pray along these lines:
  • that the people would know the truth about their own religion and about Christ
  • that supernatural experiences would accompany this truth, that the power and reality of God would be made clear
  • that believers in the area would be bold in their witness for Christ and in their love, that the local church would be mobilized to reach those closest to them
  • I've been praying through scriptures like Isaiah chapters 35, 41 and 44 that talk about the wilderness and God's promises of salvation as well
(I tried to post some pictures on this post, but the connection was too weak. So if you'd like to see pictures, check out my facebook here: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=94663&id=558574223&l=8176d
