This is Maram.
She is 18 years old and has been in Turkey for 9 years now.
Because she entered Turkey through the mountains without the government knowing, she and her mother have had trouble getting their case with the UN processed.
Maram is brilliant and loves to learn, but was only educated through 4th grade when her family fled their home.
Even though she cannot officially attend school, Maram has taken English classes through a church and is almost fluent after only a few years of studying. She loves to practice her English and learn about Western culture.
Unfortunately Maram became wary of Christianity when she was told if she said she was a Christian, her UN case would go faster, which is not true. Also, some men who claimed to be Believers said inappropriate things to her about marriage that made her very uncomfortable. These encounters made her very cautious around Christians but she continues to attend the Iranian church near her.
Maram is hungry for fellowship and wants to know the truth, but she has not decided what she thinks about Jesus yet.
To Muslims, Jesus was a good man and a prophet at the least, but to say he was the Son of God is blasphemy; they cannot grasp that Allah would have a Son that was part of him but still be just one God. In their eyes Christianity appears to worship three gods, not one.
This is just one of the hurdles to faith Maram has to overcome, but she believes that Allah will help her understand and show her the truth if she asks.
PRAY:
- That Maram will see the urgency of the decision and choose to follow Christ
- That God will put a hunger for truth in her that will drive her to his feet
- For Maram's mother and family who are just as cautious as she is about Christianity and Jesus, that the truth would be plain to them
- That Maram's family will have everything they need physically as refugees (ie, clothes, food, housing, a chance at an education, etc)
- That their case with the UN will progress when God is ready for them to move on, but that they will be close to believers wherever they are.
